Wasim, who celebrated
his 21st birthday on Thursday, reported having lower back pain while bowling at
the ICC Academy. Many found yesterday's news that pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr. had
undergone an MRI scan for what they believed to be a back issue to be
startling.
However, the pacemaker
did complain about the back issue, and an MRI was performed as a prophylactic
step to limit additional harm, according to our trustworthy sources. The
team management is sure that he will be eligible for selection even though they
are still awaiting the findings of his MRI scan, which are expected either on
Friday evening or Saturday early.
Given that Shaheen Shah
Afridi's absence from the event is already causing management of the squad some
concern, the injury scare could be problematic. The cricket board said a medical
team will closely monitor Wasim’s rehabilitation and his return to competitive
cricket will be reassessed before the England tour to Pakistan.
According to a PCB
statement released today. "The bowler's diagnosis was verified by an MRI
scan in Dubai after team medical staff evaluated him so he has has been ruled
out of the T20 Asia Cup due to injury and will be replaced by pacer Hasan Ali.
Name as Replacement:
Meanwhile Wasim's
replacement, Hasan Ali, has been nominated; nevertheless, this decision must be
approved by the Event Technical Committee. The team management requested Hasan
Ali as a replacement player, and the chief selection granted their request.
Hasan Ali has spent the last three weeks improving his bowling technique in the National High Performance Centre. He is currently in Rawalpindi getting ready for the National T20, which starts on August 30. The bowler will leave for the UAE as soon as the ETC approves Hasan as a replacement player.
