The T20 World Cup, the game's fastest-growing format, is the highest-caliber international competition.

The event was originally slated to take place in Australia in 2020, however owing to COVID-19, it was postponed and rescheduled for 16 October to 13 November 2022. Adelaide's Adelaide Oval, Brisbane's The Gabba, Geelong's Kardinia Park, Hobart's Bellerive Oval, Melbourne's MCG, Perth's Perth Stadium, and Sydney's Sydney Olympic Stadium will all host games (SCG).

Australia will host the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the first time following the record-breaking women's tournament that took place in February–March 2020. Australia defeated India in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of 86,174 fans, the second-highest attendance ever for a women's sporting event worldwide and a record for women's sport in Australia.

After winning their first ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 by defeating New Zealand in the championship match contested at Dubai International Stadium, Australia will enter the eighth edition of the men's competition as the defending champions.

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 will feature 45 matches between 16 international sides, with the championship game taking place on November 13 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
