New host for the 2022 Asia Cup

 

The Asia Cup 2022 will begin on August 27 in the UAE, with the championship game scheduled for September 11. The hosts Sri Lanka will play Afghanistan in the tournament's first match on August 27, according to the official schedule for the 15th edition of the Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup has been relocated due to the country's economic turmoil, however Sri Lanka will still have the hosting rights. The event will now take place in the United Arab Emirates from August 27 to September 11.Also read about T20 World cup 2022 Host & Venue.

Jay Shah, president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), stated in a press statement on Wednesday that "every attempt was made to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the decision to relocate the venue to the UAE was decided after considerable discussion." "The UAE will serve as the new location, with hosting rights remaining with Sri Lanka."

"This Asia Cup edition is crucial since it will aid Asian countries in their preparation for the ICC World Cup, and I appreciate the SLC and the thank you to Emirates Cricket Board for your cooperation and understanding.

In the press statement, the ACC also reaffirmed its support for Sri Lanka Cricket.





The ultimate decision to move the location was exceedingly tough, but it was one that was felt necessary. The ACC is conscious of the ardent Sri Lankan supporters. However, the cricket-loving nation of Sri Lanka remains in the thoughts of all ACC members. Thank you to Emirates Cricket Board for your cooperation and understanding.

Nine teams will compete in the T20 format of the Asia Cup, which was last played in 2018. UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, and Hong Kong will compete in a qualifying round, and the victor will go to the main competition with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

The nine-team tournament now presents a significant challenge, even though Sri Lanka recently finished a series at home against Australia and is currently hosting Pakistan. India will host the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, which has historically served as a favourite backup location for important events
