Two of the teams picked by Ricky Ponting will compete in the
T20 World Cup 2022 final.
The upcoming major event's winner has also been chosen by
Ponting.
Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia, has selected
the two countries he believes would compete in the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup
final. Australia will host the world's premier tournament from October 16 to
November 13.
Regarding the multi-team competition, Ponting has decided
which two teams will qualify for the final and which one will take home the
prized trophy. Notably, the Tasmanian has recently watched a lot of T20
cricket. In addition to being the head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian
Premier League (IPL) for the past five years, he served as Justin Langer's
assistant while working with the Australian team. He also provides commentary
for Big Bash League (BBL) games.
There can be no doubt that Ponting must have closely seen
and evaluated the top teams and players, so the importance of his opinions
increases. The two teams that will advance to the T20 World Cup finals,
according to Ponting, are India and Australia. He also predicted that Australia
would defeat the World Cup champions of 2007 and successfully defend their
championship.
"I believe India and Australia will face off in the
championship game, and I will have to predict that Australia will prevail. The
fact that the defending champions would play at their own stadium helped make
Australia's victory at the most recent World Cup a little more sweeter for
them, according to Ponting in an interview with Sanjana Ganesan on The ICC
Review show.
"I believed the conditions they were going to have to
deal with as a result of the IPL would have been the thing that might not have
allowed them to win it, as a lot of people, including myself, thought when they
went to the UAE. But they managed to do it,"
Ponting makes some wise choices for the T20 World Cup.
Ponting, who acknowledges that some luck is necessary to win
a significant ICC trophy, was strong on the
teams he believed had the best chance of succeeding in Australia.
Australia will defeat India in the final, Ponting predicted.
"I think India and Australia will be the two playing in the final,"
he said.
"The home field advantage for the defending champions
was one factor that made Australia's victory in the last World Cup, which was
not extraordinary, but a little bit sweeter for them.
The fact that many people, including myself, believed when
they travelled to the UAE that the difficulties they would encounter as a
result of the IPL might have prevented them from winning it
