OVER VIEW:
IND VS SRILANKA: Earlier in the Asia Cup 2022 super 04 Match-3, Dasun
Shanaka, the captain of Sri Lanka, elected to bowl first after winning the toss
in Dubai. According to Shanaka, his choice was made based on the venue's past
results when teams were vying for victories. The captain of India, Rohit
Sharma, concurred with his opponent and stated that he too would have bowled
first. While Sri Lanka remain unaltered, India has adjusted their strategy by
substituting Ravichandran Ashwin with Ravi Bishnoi.
In the Start of 1st inning the Rohit Sharma was India's top batter on Tuesday
against Sri Lanka, playing a captain's innings to lead his team to a
respectable 173/8 total. India lost two wickets in the space of three overs
before Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav put them on track for a substantial total
with a 97-run stand. SKY only made 34 while Rohit made 72. However, Sri Lanka
came back in the middle overs to halt the development. The best bowler was
left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka, who finished with a 3/24 record. However, Rohit got out on 72 off 41 balls and
India lost the momentum. They could eventually score only 53 off 35 balls to
finish at 173/8 in 20 overs.
In the chasing of
target 173 Srilanka had a massive start, the opening pair had added 97 runs to
lead before India was brought back by Yuzvendra Chahal's three blows. However,
Dasun Shanaka scored an unbeaten 33 while Bhanuka Rajapaksa added 25 runs
without being out to help SL get closer to their target. Kusal Mendis, who
scored 57 runs, led all scorers for Sri Lanka. Pathum Nissanka's 52-run effort
helped the team's to take over the line, Rohit Sharma and co. on the cusp of being eliminated.
Presentation Ceremony:
Captain's Talk:
Rohit Sharma (IND): Simple as that, we just wound up on the wrong side. We had an opportunity to score in the first inning of our game. We were short by about 15 runs. We performed poorly in the second half. The men who were in the middle of the field can learn how to play shots. These things are possible. Losses like this will help us learn what makes a team effective. Given the poor start they had with the ball, it was a commendable effort to carry it to the final over. In the middle overs, the spinners bowled forcefully and took wickets, but Sri Lanka maintained composure. We believed we could effectively utilise the spinners with the larger perimeter. But the strategy wasn't successful. For a very long time, their right-handers batted. I considered using the longer bounds and bringing in Hooda. But with the three seamers, I was content. Unfortunately, Avesh's performance in the fitness tests has been lacking. He was very ill, so he didn't react well. We would like to play with four seamers, but we wanted to give three seamers a shot before the World Cup. As a team, we must come up with solutions, like where we stand with five bowlers. Now that we are aware of our position with this combo. We only lost two consecutive games, so there are no long-term concerns. We haven't suffered many defeats since the last World Cup. This gaming will educate us. We intended to put ourselves under duress in the Asia Cup. We continue to look for solutions. These two games had nail-biting finishes back to back. I have to give Arshdeep a lot of respect for bowling at the very end and for his bowling technique. The experienced professionals who have been doing it for a while are Chahal and Bhuvi. I need to ask the younger children some questions.
Dasun Shanaka | SL captain | Player of the Match: The atmosphere inside the squad determined the tone. We gained our confidence from it. Our batting lineup secured victory. Dilshan and Theekshana in particular bowled brilliantly in spurts. We performed well to limit the Indian batsmen to 173 runs despite their ferocious attacks. After the first game, we had an interesting discussion. In this competition, we are aware of our potential. Mendis and Pathum set the tone for us, and Rajapaksa and I brought it to a close. I don't have to bowl my full allotment of overs because of the squad composition, which results in Chamika bowling four overs for us. I simply need to base my decisions on what the team needs.
