Retired From T20i:
Mushfiqur Rahim, a seasoned player from Bangladesh,
announced his retirement from Twenty20 cricket on social media.
Mushfiqur Rahim gave an explanation of his decision to
withdraw from the shortest format in the post, saying that he wants to
concentrate on Tests and ODIs going forward. Mushfiqur Rahim, who has
represented Bangladesh in every T20 World Cup since the tournament's debut,
won't be able to play in the major match in Australia the following month. Additionally,
he stated that he would be available to play cricket in the franchise league.
"I would like to declare my retirement from T20
Internationals and shift my attention to the Test and ODI game forms. When the
chance arises, I'll be available to play in franchise leagues. Looking forward
to representing my country with pride in the two formats, "in his post,
Mushfiqur Rahim remarked.
The choice was made after Bangladesh exited the 2022 Asia
Cup without a victory to their credit.
This is a second setback for Bangladesh as the T20 World Cup
approaches. Star opener Tamim Iqbal also retired from T20 Internationals in
June of this year in order to focus on the lengthier forms.
Mushfiqur leaves the format after participating in 102 games
and scoring 1500 runs, including six fifty-pluses and a maximum score of 72*.
The Bangladesh mainstay has appeared out of sorts in the years following his
stellar 2018 in the shortest format, in which he scored 397 runs at an average
of 30.53 while striking at 132.33. Most recently, at the Asia Cup, he returned
scores of 1 and 4, as well as missing a key catch in Bangladesh's match against
Sri Lanka, which they had to win, Going into a T20 World Cup in Australia,
Bangladesh's middle-order is greatly diminished by the absence of seasoned
Rahim. Finding a replacement for the veteran on such short notice will be
Shakib Al Hasan's challenge, considering he was only recently named the T20I
captain.
