 OVER VIEW:

Bangladesh vs Srilanka:    At Dubai international stadium Srilanka had won the toss and elected to ball first against Bangladesh in their second and final group match on Thursday, Asitha Fernando, a rookie, helped Sri Lanka recover after Bangladesh had a great start with 11 runs coming off the first over. He struck in his first over, taking the wicket of Sabbir Rahman (5 off 6), bringing Bangladesh to 19/1 in just 2.5 overs. Mehidy and captain Shakib al Hasan rebuilt Bangladesh's innings following the early wicket. Bangladesh had a strong powerplay despite the early wicket, scoring 55 runs off the first six overs for the loss of just one wicket. However, Hasaranga struck to end the 24-ball, 39-run second-wicket stand in the first over of the powerplay. Mehidy, the opener, was dismissed by Hasaranga (38 off 26), reducing Bangladesh to 58/2 in 6.5 overs.

Bangladesh lost a few wickets in short succession after the powerplay. Mushfiqur (4) swiftly returned to the dugout following Mehidy as Chamika Karunaratne struck in the very next over. Theekshana slammed back the middle stumps to end captain Shakib al Hasan's 22-ball 24 run knock and restricted Bangladesh's ability to form partnerships. Bangladesh to 88/4 in 10.4 over

However, Bangladesh made a high score of 183/7 despite the frequent wickets. Sri Lanka lost 60 runs in the final five overs. Taskin Ahmed (11 off 6) and Mosaddek Hossain (24 off 9) added 24 off 11 for the eighth wicket following the explosive fifth-wicket stand to lead Bangladesh to their best total in the UAE.

Chasing a score of 184, Sri Lanka kept poise to defeat Bangladesh in 19.2 overs and go to the Asia Cup's Super 4. As they refused to buckle under pressure, opener Kusal Mendis' 37-ball 60 and captain Dasin Shanaka's 33-ball 45 helped Sri Lanka win the chase. Earlier, Bangladesh was able to score 183 runs for seven wickets. After Bangladesh was in trouble at 87 for four, Hossain (39), together with Mahmudullah, put together a 57-run partnership. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38) gave Bangladesh an early lead. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bowl. In their opening matchup against Afghanistan, both teams suffered losses.

Post Match Presentation Ceremony:

Captain's Talk:

Shakib ul Hassan (BANG):    I found the middle time to be challenging. But I believed it was possible with Kusal and I in the centre. Today, our openers performed admirably, something we lacked in the previous game. That initial relationship was essential for us to successfully chase down this total. I had contemplated it (promoting himself up the order). However, I had to make a sacrifice, descend, and take on the position of a finisher for the squad. It concerns what the team requires. Asitha Fernando made two spectacular strokes to end the games.

Dasun Sanaka (SRI):    I found the middle time to be challenging. But I believed it was possible with Kusal and I in the centre. Player Of the Match (Kushal Mendis):     I played my usual game for the first six overs and kept doing that. It's my day today! (No ball out!) I stepped up to the plate once more with a solid strategy and the desire to win the game. I gave the squad my all. In Sri Lanka for the past six months, I practised a lot. I am aware of the tasks my team requires me to complete, and I will give it my all. The Sri Lankan supporters are greatly appreciated.
